Found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Ecuador at elevations of 350 to 1750 meters as a miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 close, tubular sheaths and another below the middle carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute leaf with a sessile, broadly cuneate base that blooms in the winter on an erect, suberect to arching, lax, distichous, simultaneously few to several flowered, 2" to 5 3/4" [5 to 14 cm] long, racemose inflorescence arising from a slender spathe and having a floral bract.
This species and P gomezii are similar but it differs in having slightly larger flowers with acuminate sepals and long-acuminate petals.
