Found in Risaralda Colombia in cloud forests at elevations around 2100 meters small to medium sized, cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped below by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, suberect to horizontal, coriaceous, ovate, acute, lightly acuminate, broadly cuneate to subcordate into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the later spring on 1 to 2, loose, distichous, 4.4 to 5.2" [11 to 13 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence that is shorter than and reclines on the leaf and is subtended by a spathe and has thin, infundibular floral bracts.
Similar vegetatively to P phalagifera but with a shorter than the leaf inflorescence and considerably smaller flowers and P rowleei has similar flowers but this one has acuminate sepals and long-acuminate petals.
