Found in Oaxaca and Chiapas states of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama in mixed tropical forests at elevations around 1000 meters as a warm to cool growing epiphyte that blooms in the winter
Often cited as a synonym of P endotrachys it is closely related to P dueterodunstervillei, P pfavii, P remotifolia, P juddii, P fulgens, P guanacastensis and P montezumae.
