Common Name The Guanacaste Pleurothallis [West Costa Rican and Nicaragua Coast]
Flower Size 1/5" [5 mm]
Found in Nicaragua and Costa Rica in montane tropical forests as a mini-miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte at elevations of 80 to 1100 meters with an erect ramicaul enveloped basally by 2 scarious sheaths and carrying a single, apical, narrowly elliptic, carinate, retuse, conspicuous apicule in the sinus leaf that blooms in the winter on a filiform, 1 2/5" [3.5 cm] long, successively single flowered inflorescence which is shorter than the leaf.
P guanacastensis is in a group of closely related species, P endotrachys, P deuterodunstervillei, P pfavii, P deuteroremotiflora, P spectabilis, P juddii, P fulgens, and P montezumae.
