Found in central Ecuador and northern Peru on the eastern slope of the Andes at elevations around 1300 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, slender, provided with a single, papery, basal sheath, sharply ancipitous ramicaul carrying a single, apical, erect to suberect, ovate, acute, cuneate, sessile, entire, coriaceous leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a fascile of solitary, successive flowers arising through a reclining, spathaceous bract at the base of the leaf
Part of the P crocodiliceps group which consists of P arietina, P microchila, P nelsonii, P andreae, P weilii and P kelsoae
