Found in Colombia and Ecuador on the western slope of the Andes at elevations of 1900 to 3000 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect, slender, provided with a single, papery, basal sheath, sharply ancipitous ramicaul carrying a single, apical, erect to suberect, ovate, acute, cuneate, sessile, entire, coriaceous leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a fascile of solitary, successive flowers arosong through a reclining spathaceous bract at the base of the leaf.
Part of the P crocodiliceps group which consists of P arietina, P microchila, P nelsonii, P manningiana, P weilii and P kelsoae
