Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica in wet montane forests at elevations of 1100 to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte. The orchid has terete elongate ramicauls enveloped entirely by tight, scarious sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ligulate, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf with a tridentate apice and dorsally carinate. This small plant blooms in the summer on 1 or 2, terminal, 4 to 5" [10 to 12.5 cm] long, racemose, many flowered inflorescence that arises from an annulus and has closely set flowers.
