Common Name The Anchor-Bearing Scaphosepalum [refers to the appearance of the recurved tails of the connate sepals]

Found in Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador in premontane and lower montane rainforests at elevations of 1100 to 2000 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with erect to suberect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, elliptical, acute leaf that gradually narrows into the slender, channeled petiole and blooms in the spring summer and fall on a slender, smooth, ascending to horizontal to descending, 6" [15 cm] long, congesteed, successively several flowered inflorescencearising from low on the ramicaul with thin floral bracts.
