Common Name The Snappish Porroglossum [refers to the fierce shape of the flower]
Flower Size .4" [1 cm]
Found in central and southwestern Colombia at elevations of 1700 to 2400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte. This orchid has erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 scarious sheaths and carries a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate, subacute, subverrucose leaf with a long petiole. The large blooms are produced in succession on an erect, 4 to 5" [10 to 15 cm] long stem that holds the few, successively single flowers well above the leaves and can occur at any time of the year.
