Found in Peru at elevations around 520 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with slender, erect, triquetrous ramicauls enveloped by 2 thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, very narrowly ovate, acute, gradually narrowing below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the late summer and fall on a congested, erect, filiform, .8 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm] long, simultaneously 3 to 4, flowered inflorescence arising through and concealed mostly by a spathe arising from the apex of the ramicaul.

Similar to P pantasmi but P fumioi is distinguished by a very narrow leaf bourne by a triquetrous ramicaul instead of winged ramicaul with a wider leaf, The few, thickly fleshy flowers are borne in a short crowded raceme and this is consistent with P pantasmi. The petals though in P fumioi are unguiculate and acuminate and the lobes of the lip are smaller and the callus is not centrally cleft as in P pantasmi.
