Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia at elevations around 1200 to 2300 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with slender to stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, acute, slightly acuminate, cuneate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the late winter through summer on 1 to 4, distichous, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long, subdensely, simultaneously many flowered inflorescence arising through a spathe at the base of the leaf and has tubular floral bracts.
"The long roots are produced along a stout, shortly creeping rhizome giving rise to an erect ramcicaul carrying a large, elliptic leaf that blooms on a many flowerd raceme arising from the cuneate base of the leaf. The synsepal is concave, but not deeply so, the petals are narrow, but not thickened and the lip is ovate, shallowly concave and subverrucose at the acute apex, The base is truncate and shallowly concave on end.
