Found in Colombia and Venezuela in shady, wet tropical montane forests at elevations around 1850 to 3550 meters as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 basal, tubular sheath and another near the middle and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late spring through early fall on an arching to pendant, congested fascile of 1 to 1.8" [2.5 to 4.5 cm] long, few flowered, racemose inflorescence arising within an ovate spathe at the apex of the ramicaul and has loose floral bracts.
Distinguished by the long ramicauls carrying a single, long, acute, narrowly elliptical, distinctly petiolatae base leaf that blooms on a short few flowered, fasciled racemes at the apex of the ramicaul. The dorsal sepal is held erect from the subglobose synsepal and the pair of petals stands erect, side by side in front of the dorsal sepal. The lip is rtransversly suborbicular and the basal lobes encircle the column, The flowers are yellow or purple." Luer 1999
