Common Name The Lamina Pleurothallis [refers to the calli of the lip]

Found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia at elevations of 1950 to 2930 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and another close to the middle carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute leaf with a cordate, sessile base that blooms in the spring on an arcuate, to 4" [to 10 cm] long, loosely several flowered inflorescence subtended basally by a spathe and with infundibulbar floral bracts holding the simultaneously opening flowers.
"Disitinguished by the stout ramicaul carrying a single, ovate, cordate leaf that blooms on an arching raceme of relatively large flowers with sepals intenely striped in purple, extremely thick petals adherent to each other and a rounded, bicallous, minutely denticulate lip with broad basal lobes clasping the column."
