Common Name The Sleeved Pleurothallis [refers to the dilated sheaths on the ramicaul]

Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia at elevations around 1800 to 2400 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, broad, dilated, tubular sheaths and another near the middle and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, broadly cordate, obtuse, acuminate, basally sessile leaf that blooms in the spring on a fascile of several, erect, 6 to 8" [15 to 20 cm] long, simultaneously opening, many flowered, racemose inflorescence arising from a broad, foliaceous spathe at the leaf base and carries slender, ovate, concave, acute floral bracts.
