Found in Zamora-Chinchipe province of Ecuador at elevations around 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with slender, blackish, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths below the middle and at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a loose, distichous, 1.2 to 2.4" [3 to 6 cm] long including the .4 to .8" [1 to 2 cm] long peduncle, simultaneously several flowered inflorescence arising through a narrow spathe from an annulus just below the apex of the ramicaul.
"Similar to P mediocarinata but is easily distinguished by the small habit, the small bright orange sepals that are papillose-pubescent within. The petals are obtuse and carinate. The lip is acuate and oblong but widest at the rounded apex. On the disc above the middle only 2 carinae meet above the apical margin in a low, verrucose, callous junction." Luer 1999
