Found in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador at elevations around 200 to 800 meters as a small to large sized, hot growing epiphyte with erect, stout, elongate ramicauls enveloped by one below the middle and by 2 to 3 close tubular sheaths below and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, lanceolate, nervose, acute to slightly acuminate, gradually narrowing below into the cuneate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on 1 to several, simultaneously opening, 2 to 4" [5 to 10 cm] long, racemose, 8 to 10 flowered inflorescence arising through a spathe at the apex of the ramicaul with oblique floral bracts
