Common Name The Dog-Tooth Pleurothallis [refers to the appearance of the petals]
Flower Size .8" [2 cm]
Found in Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia at elevations of 1500 to 2850 meters as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 sheaths and another below the middle and carrying a single apical, erect, coriaceous, oblong-ovate, acute, basally sessile and deeply cordate leaf that blooms in the spring on a very short, successively single flowered inflorescence arising from a reclining spathe at the base of the leaf and has thin, tubular floral bracts.
Similar to P bivalvis but is characterized by the large, oblong leaves that are deeply cordate at the base and carrying a large flower with a three nerved dorsal sepal, narrowly triangular, acute, diverging, smooth petals and a proportionately large, convex, glabrous lip that is half as long as the synsepal.
CAUTION I am not 100% positive of this determination as lip has indentations not shown in Luer’s drawings so please use with caution.
