Found in Ecuador and Bolivia as a large sized, warm to cool growing, terrestrial at elevations of 1450 to 2250 meters with stout, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 close tubular sheaths and another below the middle and carrying a single apical, erect, rigidly coriaceous, elliptical oblong, acute, shortly acuminate, deeply cordate, sessile leaf that blooms in the fall on a fascile of 1 to 5, simultaneous single flowers arising through a spathe at the leaf base.
