Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia and Pichincha province of Ecuador in wet cloud forests at elevations around 500 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, thin, loose, imbricating sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer and winter on a filiform, weak, suberect, to 2.4" [6 cm] long including the .6 to .8" [1.5 to 2 cm] long peduncle, loose, distichous, flexuous, successively several flowered inflorescence arising from the ramicaul and has a thin floral bract.
There are 4 very similar species all from the western side of the andes of Ecuador, P adelphe, P scopulifera, P ximenae and P pubescens, which is easily distinguished from the others by its long-pubescent sepals and the transversly cordate lip.
