Found in Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in wet montane forests at elevations of 350 to 2400 meters as a large sized, hot to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 5 to 10, long, tubular, hispidous sheaths carrying a single apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly ovate, acute leaf that is cuneate below into the subpetiolate base that blooms in the winter and spring on a fascile of a few to many, single, simultaneously opening flowers arising from the apex of the ramicaul with the minutely pubescent peduncle being .32" to .6" [8 to 15 mm] long, and infundibular, pubescent floral bracts.
