Found in Venezuela, northeastern Peru and northern Brazil in moist lowland forests at elevations of 50 to 200 meters as a miniature sized, hot, caespitose to subrepent, erect growing epiphyte with ovoid pseudobulbs enveloped basally by distichous, imbricating, leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying a single, fleshy, linear, acute apically leaves that blooms on an axillary, short to 1.6" [4 cm] long, erect to horizontal, single flowered inflorescence
See also the similar M granditenuis which differs in the larger flowers, tomentose callus and the midlobe of the lip.
