Common Name or Meaning Wuelfinghoff's Masdevallia [German Orchid Enthusiast current]

Found in southern Ecuador at elevations around 1800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, slender, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, blackish tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse to rounded, cuneate below into the blackish petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a slender, erect, 2 to 2.4" [5 to 6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul, with a bract at the base and a tubular floral bract.
