Deep Shade Cool Cold Spring

Common Name or Meaning Trautmann's Masdevallia [German Orchid Enthusiast current]

Flower Size .8" [2 cm]

Found in Ecuador at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with slender, blackish, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, black tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring, on an erect, slender, 1.2" [3 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul, with a bract at the base and a tubular floral bract.
