Common Name The Slim-Beaked Masdevallia

Flower Size 1 1/2" [3.75 cm]

Endemic to Antioquia department of Colombia in cloud forests at elevations of 2000 to 2200 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical-obovate, apically obtuse to rounded leaf that gradually narrows into the subpetiolate base that blooms in the spring on a stout, congested, erect, 2 2.8" to 3.4" [7 to 8.5 cm] long, successively few flowered, racemose, triquetrous inflorescence arising from the base of the ramicaul with a basal bract and tubular, imbricating floral bracts holding the successive single flower at leaf height.
