Common Name The Beautiful Tube Masdevallia [refers to the sepaline tube of this speceies]
Flower Size .8" [2 cm]
Found in Peru in cloud forests at elevations around 2700 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a slender, erect, 1.6 to 2.4" [4 to 6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract above the base and a tubular floral bract
Similar to M fuchsii and often cited as a synonym in error. M fuchsii differs in the less hairy, wider flared, shorter and wider sepaline tube.
