Common Name The Spurred Masdevallia [refers to the deeply conical mentum of the flower]

Found in Peru without locality data as a mini-miniature sized epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, broadly elliptical, obtuse to rounded, contracted below into the elongate petiolate base leaf, that blooms in the later summer on a slender below becoming stout above, erect, 2.8" [7 cm] long peduncle, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul, with a bract on the lower quarter with a tubular floral bract, holding the single flower well above that leaf.
