Found in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama in wet montane forests at the base of trees at elevations around 1700 to 2800 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial or epiphyte with conical-ovoid pseudobulbs enveloped by scarious sheaths and carrying 2, basal, glossy dark green, elliptic, acute to shortly acuminate, gradually narrowing below into tubular petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on a terminal, erect, 5 winged, 4" [10 cm] long, lax, racemose, several flowered, subcorymbose inflorescence
