Found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in wet montane forests at elevations around [500] 800 to 2700 [3000] meters as a large sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial on steep embankments with erect, cane-like, terete stems enveloped completely by leafless and leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying towards the apex, plicate, narrowly linear-lanceolate, acuminate, deciduous, thin leaves that blooms at most any time of the year on a pendent to horizontal, 3.2" [8 cm] long, flexuous, glabrous, very fractiflex, few to several [6 to 9] flowered, racemose inflorescence with large, loosely arranged, deciduous, far exceeding the ovary and flower floral bracts
