Common Name The Sooty Dracula

Found in northwestern Ecuador at elevations of 1800 to 2500 meters in cloud forest as a medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, obovate, subplicate, acute, gradually narrowing to the indistinct conduplicate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on a slender, horizontal, to 6" [to 15 cm] long, few bracted, successively few flowered inlforescence arising from low on the ramicaul and carrying a tubular floral bract.
