Found in in Ecuador on the western cordillera at elevations around 1900 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, verey narrowly obovate to linear, acute, narrowing below into the indistinct, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later spring on a horizontal to ascending, stout, sparsely bracted, arising from low on the ramicaul, pecuncle 2.4 to 4" [6 to 10 cm] long, lax, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a tubular floral bract, a dark purple ovary and carrying a deeply cupped flower
